Sitting waiting for the keynote on day 2 of the PDC. One of the things they’re doing is posting Twitter messages on the screens. There’s an awful lot of people running behind today.
Of course, that could well be because they kept a similar schedule to mine last night. First I hit the VB/C# MVP dinner, with such notables in attendance as Paul Vick, Beth Massi, Ted Neward, Amanda Laucher (the self-acclaimed “F# Chick”), Steven “Doc List”, Alan Griver... and that was the table I was at. Scott Hanselman was also there, as was Anders.
There until almost 10, then it was off to Z Sushi – a fair ways across town. I was crammed into the back seat of Beth’s new Infiniti G37 (at 6’3”, 240… crammed was literally the case. I had to get out through a different door than I got in. There was no way I was turning around.) I’d tell you how fast Beth made that trip, but I’m afraid those details could be used to prosecute her. We (Beth, Alan, Ted and Amanda) closed out Brian Randall and Jon Flanders’ party. Then we convoyed back downtown. This time, I rode with Ted and Amanda in the back of a rented HHR. A little roomier, but not much slower. Turns out that Ted also grew up in California, and his LA driving skills weren’t far beneath the surface.
Ended up at the Standard (?) for a rooftop bloggers party. Probably the funniest moment was when a young, drunk guy came up to Brian Randall, his wife, Sinter (?) from the VSTS team and myself… and told us he was in marketing… for Microsoft. When Brian asked, “What group?” he replied, “It’s kinda technical".” Needless to say, it kind of went downhill from there.
Closed that out around 1:30 am. Still, sitting here in the keynote, a little short of caffeine but otherwise no worse for wear. Gotta love PDC.
